Five Tips
For That First Phone Call
After meeting someone online, you may want to take the relationship
to the next step by hearing each other’s voices on the phone. The
first phone call can be a bit uncomfortable and nerving. Read the
following steps to really impress him/her.
- Show confidence in your voice.
If you speak too quickly you will stutter and stammer.
You will also sound nervous, so speak slowly and think about what
you want to say. Stay cool, calm and collected so the conversation
flows well.
- Call in The Evening
Try not to call when you both are at work. The evenings are best when most people are free to talk and won’t be distracted by things going on around them.
If you do call at a bad time, offer to call back at a more appropriate time.
- Keep The Conversation Flowing
Keep the conversation interesting, talk about your/their day or the news. However, don’t talk too much about yourself, ask him/her questions and let them talk.
Try leaving the deeper subjects for when you meet! Don’t mention past relationships as this can be quite a touchy subject. When you feel you have said enough, hang up. Don’t leave a conversation going if it has dried up!
- Make Them Laugh!
Keep the conversation light-hearted by cracking a few jokes and making them laugh. Try telling a funny story. It will make you feel more comfortable and impress him/her!
However, make sure the joke is actually funny or you could hit a dead end. Try not to offend him/her with your joke either…it is easily done!
